Photography as Art” is a groundbreaking new seminar Art Wolfe has created for individuals who want to spark their imagination and discover how to make artistic statements through photography. The all-day seminar encourages creative professionals to see and make art in exciting new ways.

With art history as a reference point, participants explore avenues to maintain inspiration, foster their own personal style, and distinguish their photography from others. They will deepen their understanding of how to translate conceptual ideas into creative results, get tips on spotting the non-obvious, and learn innovative ways to free their visual imagination. A booklet with seminar highlights makes a valuable go-to resource long after the event has ended.

“Today’s seminar at Kenmore camera was amazing…I have always been drawn to photos of patterns and lines in nature and architecture and love to find the abstractions found in  old, weathered wood and metals.  This seminar was spot on in confirming the beauty that can be found anywhere if we keep our eyes open to the smaller details and view them from a different perspective. I was fascinated by the relationships in your work to the masters and examples you presented. I am excited to bring this to my own photographs. Thank you for offering this for those of us who have just begun to focus our own camera lens into this wonderful world!”

Pt. Lobos, California

Some of you who attended my Photography as Art seminar on Sunday may recognize a few of these photos I took last week on the California coast. I work on my presentations up to the very last moment and then some, getting them to where I want them to be. Not only is this a stunningly beautiful location on the central coast, but it is a goldmine of photographic opportunities, large and small.

Recent Photos from the Southeastern Sierra

I recently led a workshop in the Southern Sierra in California. The fall color put on quite a show, with the aspen trees being a particularly stunning subject to photograph. We also found a lake full of coots, worked on abstracts in Bodie State Historical Park, visited the always fantastical tufas at Mono Lake and stopped at the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest to add more unique texture to the portfolio.

Last call for Southern Sierra Workshop

Join me in an exploration of the Southern Sierra in California, September 24-27th. The light is exquisite this time of year. It is a fascinating region, full of photographic possibilities. One day we will set up amidst the ancient & twisted Bristlecone pines at 11,000 feet and the next we will pass through the ghost town of Bodie on our way to the surreal tufa formations of Mono Lake. We will take field sessions to the beautiful surroundings of Bishop. Finer points of maximizing light will be discussed in the classroom and in the field. Critiques will be part of the learning process too.

The best way to learn photography, is in the field, one-on-one with an experienced instructor.

Bay Area Cool

Bay Area, California – May 2013 – Images by Art Wolfe

Last week I was in the Bay Area doing a Google Talk with Nik. My talk will be posted within the next couple weeks.

Later I was walking in a San Francisco neighborhood and saw two red macaws flying out over the city and I followed them down to this local park. There I met the man who had raised them and allows them to free fly out over the skyline. While in the park several people showed up making soap bubbles with wands and rope to the delight of onlookers- and me. Just something fun about bubbles! Finally, what’s a trip to SF without crossing the Golden Gate Bridge for some photos from the famous Battery Spencer vista point.
