Do You Want to Go to Cuba?

Some of you who get my newsletter may have noticed that I am doing a photo tour to Cuba in March 2016. It filled quickly and I am starting a waiting list for Gavriel Jecan’s tour that is happening right after mine.

Gavriel Jecan is one of my recommended guides. He leads many photography tours and will be visiting all of the same locations and will be utilizing the same Cuban photography guides.

Put your name on the waitlist now to get on Gavriel’s tour!

Photo Tours 2013: ROMANIA

<!–<!–
BLOG: Romania Photo Tour 2013 – Images by Art Wolfe

There is nothing like experiencing a place for the first time. I have traveled all over Western Europe, but the closest I have been to the southeastern nations is Greece and Turkey. Now I am traveling to the native land of my good friend and long time assistant, Gavriel Jecan.

Other than as the home to vampires, gymnasts and despots, Romania remains unknown to most. We will travel to Gavriel’s ancient hometown of Brasov, nestled in the Carpathian Alps. Brown bears come down from the mountains and roam the outskirts of the city. We will be traveling just as the untouched forests in the Carpathians are turning golden, which will lend a great backdrop to the very traditional 12th century villages we will be passing through.

We will visit several orthodox monasteries, famous for their medieval murals, and we will engage the diverse peoples—Roma, ethnic Hungarian and German, as well as Romanian—all along the way. With Gavriel as our guide it will be like visiting a good friend, not like traveling with a standard tour guide.

This is a trip that I am eagerly awaiting.

Both Art & Gavriel are great personal mentors, who are most accommodating when it comes to sharing their applied knowledge, and personal experience. I look forward to reconnecting in the future.” To contact Ben about his photos and experience, email him at ben@greystonedesign.on.ca

Kevin Mullen: “I have had the pleasure of taking two different photo workshops with Art Wolfe this year.  Once in Zion in April and the most recent one in the Canadian Rockies.  As a result of these two great workshops I have taken my photography to a new level.  Through the well prepared teaching presentations,  the portfolio reviews  and the personal attention of Art,  I have been able to change how I view the world around me to photograph. With these improved skills from these two workshops I have produced some of the best photographs I have taken in my life with a camera.  Thank you for making photography even more enjoyable!”

Olympic Workshop Day 1

BLOG: Olympic Workshop April 2011 Day 1 – Images by Art Wolfe

Yesterday I arrived on the Olympic Peninsula to prepare for my workshop this weekend. Jay Goodrich, Gavriel Jecan, and I headed up to the top of Hurricane Ridge on a scouting mission to see if this would be a good location to bring students to in the coming days. I did find some remarkable subjects, but also found the deepest snowpack that I have ever seen in my 40 years of photographing in this region. There was a ton of rockfall, huge avalanche run-outs, and below freezing temperatures as we approached closer and closer to the summit. I decided that this wouldn’t be the greatest location to bring a group of 25, but was rewarded with a great photo session of a raven.

Today we will be heading to the Sol Duc and then tomorrow to the Hoh Rain Forest and the coast for sunset. More coming soon.

What a great way to celebrate Earth Day 2011!

Vaughn Hart traveled with Art to Japan last month. To see more of his photos visit http://picasaweb.google.com/vaughnhart

“Traveling to Japan with Art was a trip I had been wishing to do ever since I saw his Travels to the Edge show on Japan several years ago. This trip exceeded my expectations. Traveling with Art, Gavriel, and our Japanese guides was simply outstanding. It was the hardest trip I have taken as we had to get up around 3 AM many nights to get to our location for sunrise. It was all worth it in the end. We got spectacular light and I feel I made some of my best images on this trip. Our timing for this trip was very fortunate. I arrived after the volcano erupted and left just a few weeks before the earthquake. I really got to see Japan at its best. The people were happy and extremely friendly and helpful. I also feel Art was an outstanding teacher who worked tirelessly everyday to help improve all of our photography.”

Meeting Minutes – Workshop Locations by Jay Goodrich

Mountain goat and Grinnell Point by Art Wolfe

Last Thursday, Art, Gavriel Jecan, Libby Pfeiffer, and myself had a meeting regarding the upcoming workshops for 2011. We started by looking at our calendars to see who was doing what and when, then we looked at the spreadsheet of locations that all of you voted for, and then we talked–for almost an hour. Everyone out there has selected some amazing world-wide destinations. Topping the list in order are Iceland, Canada, Alaska, and Patagonia. What we came to realize is that we want more opinions on where to travel to in the United States. Now if you just have to go to some international destination, it is still okay to tell us about that too. So don’t be shy, add a comment here or head over to Twitter and tell us by adding the hashtag #travelwithart to your tweet. We will be keeping score for the next week. Then, there will be another meeting.
