Pathways to Creativity Season 1 is a Wrap & EIOW w/Richard I’anson!

All 13 Pathways to Creativity Season 1 episodes are in the books, and I’m already prepping for season 2. Stay tuned to the blog for updates! The feedback for Season 1 has been tremendous and appreciated. I’ve been meaning to do this for so long that I can’t believe it’s a reality, let alone with 13 episodes in the can. It’s taken hundreds of hours to compile and edit, let alone the nearly five decades of captures that have gone into it. At least my time stuck at home hasn’t been without productivity!

I’m already looking forward to creating Season 2, and implementing all the things we’ve learned along the way. Leave a comment below if you’re a subscriber if you have any suggestions or comments.

Another project that I’ve been enjoying is the Earth Is Our Witness live-stream that Parimal and myself have been doing on Thursday nights following Tequila Time. EIOW is our chance to speak with photographers from all over the world who are bringing awareness and insight into cultures, wildlife, the environment and more. With so much negativity we want to emphasize the good happening, and we want you to join us!

This week’s guest will be Canon Master photographer and Lonely Planet author Richard I’Anson! Join us on Facebook live or Youtube this Thursday at 7 PM Pacific!

Tequila Time Images, Earth is Our Witness w/Bandeep Signh!

As promised during Tequila Time last night, here are the images from last night’s talk in case you wanted a closer look. As always we can print almost any image you see here, on my website, or anywhere else! Contact my staff and let them know what you’re looking for  – they would be happy to help walk you through the process. If you happen to like an image from this series, just use the “i” button to see the photo info and note the last 3 digits of the file name when you inquire about the image.

In case you missed it, after TT Parimal and myself also had a great talk with Bandeep Singh and his never before seen body of work, “Gaia’s Song”. Check it out, and be sure to follow Earth is our witness on YouTube for more great interviews with photographers about their important work documenting culture, conservation, climate, and more!

Witness with Michelle Valberg & Submit your Tequila Time questions!

Hard to believe it, but we’ve been doing a weekly live broadcast every Thursday night for four months now. If you’ve been missing out and can make it work with your time zone, make sure you follow me on Facebook and Instagram so you don’t miss out on tomorrow’s live broadcast! I need your help though – in the form of more questions! Leave a comment below with anything you might want to know about photography, my career, or something completely random – have fun with it!

We’ve also added Earth Is Our Witness to the mix, which is a fantastic way to get to know some of the world’s greatest photographers some of which you’ve likely heard of, and others you should know! The premise of EIOW is to emphasize the ways that we are, by and large, similar around the world, with the same goals, dreams, and wishes for our friends, our families, and ourselves.

This week on EIOW, we will be talking with Canadian Geographic photographer-in-residence & Nikon Ambassador Michelle Valberg on her work in the Arctic and the inspiring stories behind the lives of the Inuit people who reside there.

Tequila Time kicks off at 5:30 PM PST every Thursday on Facebook Live & Instagram.

Earth is Our Witness begins at 7 PM PST on Thursday on Facebook Live & Youtube.

Enjoy – oh and last but not least, Pathways to Creativity episode 9: Using Light Part 1 is up and available!

Tequila Time Recap – “Don’t Do This!”

Sloth Bear, Royal Chitwan National Park, Nepal

In case you missed last night’s episode of Tequila Time, you can watch it here! In this episode I discussed times in my career in which I may have done something a little risky, or my understanding of the dangers involved may have been overruled by my need to get that perfect shot. Learn from my mistakes! And just a Public Service Announcement in case you simply can’t find the time to watch the video – stay away from sloth bears!

If you’ve missed any past episodes and want to get caught up, you can find links to all the videos on my multimedia page. Catch every story, every moment, and every Tequila-induced “TMI” moment!

Also, stay tuned to my social channels regarding next week’s episode of Tequila Time – I’ll finally be travelling (and taking all the proper precautions!). That may mean adjusting the Tequila Time format and timing a bit to accommodate when I might have a strong enough connection to broadcast.

Thanks to all who continue to join our weekly chats!

#ICYMI Friday – A Special Conversation with Art Wolfe

Welcome to an ICYMI (In Case You Missed It) Friday!

Continuing our Thursday tradition for over two months (!) now, I sat down with Parimal Deshpande and our live viewing audience on Instagram and Facebook last evening. This time, however, we left the cocktails unpoured to keep clear heads and talk about a very important issue – and that is, simply put, that we as humans – not just by and large, but overwhelmingly so, in my experiences – all have the same dreams and desires.

Check out the IGTV video here!

It isn’t hyperbole to say that I have traveled more than anyone else I know, and while this simple fact means nothing in and of itself, the very goal of my travels abroad are often to scrutinize the local cultures both to focus my lens on the moments and subjects that capture their lifestyle, but to also ensure that I’m staying within my bounds as a guest.

In case you missed the video you can check it out on my Instagram TV page. I’m including a gallery here of some of the images I discuss.

Also, on one final note – many of you have preregistered for my new streaming lecture series, Pathways to Creativityof which I mentioned the first episode and full series subscription would be available for purchase this week. I just want you to know that yes, Pathways is up and I look forward to talking about it more in the weeks to come. However, given recent events and the news of the week I simply didn’t feel right making a big marketing push when there are so many other important things happening on social media. However, it is up and available and I am excited to share it!

#FridayReads – 10 Influential & Inspiring Books from Art’s Library

Welcome back to Art’s Bookshelf! Last night on Tequila Time with Art, I discussed some of the books that have influenced and inspired me over the years. It’s a list of 10, but they are in no particular order. I find that as an artist, it’s difficult to choose “favorites” – any shred of inspiration you can find is simply invaluable and incomparable. Do yourself a favor and buy yourself something nice, whether it’s one of MY books, or these fantastic volumes by other authors. Looking at images online is amazing and convenient, but there is something about picking up a heavy book and immersing yourself in it’s pages with no distractions.

Without further ado – 10 influential books from my bookshelf! For the details, I discuss them all on Tequila Time Episode 5!

1.) Man As Art by Malcolm Kirk

2.) Gold  by Sebastian

3.) Everest: The West Ridge by Thomas F. Hornbein

4.) The Creation by Ernst Haas

5.) African Ceremonies by Angela Fisher and Carol Beckwith

6.) Manufactured Landscapes by Edward Burtynsky

7.) Irving Penn by Irving Penn

8.) Inside Life by Greg Gorman

9.) Across the Empty Quarter by Wilfred Thesiger

10.) Explorations by the Royal Geographic Society

Enjoy the list and hopefully the episode of Tequila Time. If you’re not joining me at 5:30 on thursdays for our live chat, you’re missing out! Follow me on Instagram and Facebook (The Insta audio/video is much better quality!) and join the conversation, submit questions, and catch me in some candid predicaments.

As usual drop your comments below and include your Instagram handle for a follow!

Tequla Time with Art Recap – Live Like an Artist!

Hard to believe I’ve been doing Tequila Time for a month now, but I can’t express enough how nice it’s been to be able to connect with everyone out there. During this stay-at-home order, I’ve pretty much limited contact to the same few people who are helping with the live broadcast – so having this opportunity to connect with everyone is saving my sanity – thank you!

I almost consider my home and garden a public space, so being able to do a virtual tour  and sharing with you the artifacts and memories I’ve collected over the years means a lot to me. The theme of course for this video is “If you want to be an artist, LIVE like an artist”! Collect things that inspire you and make no apologies for surrounding yourself with the things you draw your creative fuel from, whatever that may be.

Enjoy the video – also I should note, the quality of the live video feed through Instagram is far superior to Facebook, so if you want the best possible experience for future TTA episides I highly suggest getting on IG – it’s also a great place to see my daily photo posts.

Have a great weekend, and hopefully you’ll be joining us next week, when we hang out in my den and discuss my favorite books!

Tequila Time with Art – Live @ 5:30 PST – Recipe included!

Looking forward to another live Tequila Time this evening and I’d love to see you there if you can make it! We’ll be on Facebook Live and Instagram. If you’re planning on playing along at home, here’s a recipe I loosely follow:

1 1/2 oz of your favorite Blanco Tequila
1/2 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz Agave Nectar
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
Crushed Ice

Finish with a splash of tangerine or orange juice – perfect as the days get sunnier and warmer! For those of you who don’t imbibe or aren’t of age, here’s a mocktail recipe you can use – no alcohol, but lots of love an fresh ingredients!

2 oz honey or agave
1 oz limeade concentrate
1 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz fresh grapefruit juice
2 drops almond extract
1/4 tsp orange extract or bitters
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp chili powder
Crushed Ice

In either case, it’s not a tequila cocktail or a mocktail without limes to garnish!

See you at 5:30 on Instagram or Facebook!
