The Human Canvas: Traditional Thai Tattoo – Images by Art Wolfe
Tattooing is an ancient art & in Thailand it started with Buddhist monks, who believed sacred texts gave them protection. Thai icons such as tigers are now very popular, but are not powerful unless they are surrounded by the proper mantras.

Myanmar Day 5 – Images by Art Wolfe
It was a full day of shooting at Myanmar’s broad and shallow Inle Lake. We took full advantage of the amazing light conditions to silhouette the fishermen and their pyramidal nets. We also were able to photograph a few Kayan (or Karen) women, particularly notable because of their elegant brass neck coils.

June 28-30. Work in Art’s backyard with his expert assistants and learn the finer points of maximizing early morning and late afternoon light. We will shoot at some of the most beautiful locations in Western Washington, including Hurricane Ridge, Sol Duc River Valley, Salt Point and Lake Crescent. We will spend most of the daylight hours photographing in the field, and schedule photo critiques in the evening after dark. This annual workshop fills quickly!

Maynmar’s bustling port city of Yangon is a gritty and fascinating subject: unending lines of laborers offloading commodities, the lines of brightly painted boats ferrying people to & fro, the smell of sweat and frying foods. It is a very visceral experience.

Detour to Jakarta – Images by Art Wolfe
One of my goals has been to photograph at the national mosque in Jakarta, the Masjid Istiqlal. So after spending many days at the Hindu Kumbh Mela, I flew off to Indonesia. This is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia and the grand domes prayer hall is a sight to behold, especially during prayers, when it is full to capacity.
