Things have really picked up this year in terms of international travel – from Brazil to Morocco, a couple tours in Africa, and all manner of points in between. It’s been good to get back to traveling again with new faces and old friends and I’m looking forward to the coming year!
Several new workshops have been posted on my events page, a few with early bird specials to save a few bucks. I’ll be adding more later in the year as well, so check my events page often for up to date opportunities.

Lots of fish, lots of bears, lots of action—what else would you expect from a couple weeks in Katmai National Park!? The cubs are always precious but this year they were FEISTY! We enjoyed watching and photographing one group of three siblings get in a row over a fish as mamma bear looked on. The two bigger cubs went at it, while the third smaller cub sneaked in and made off with the fish. Live and learn!
2023’s Katmai Bears workshops are up and there are a few spots available. If you anticipate that you might want to join, don’t hesitate to sign up, as they generally fill up faster than your average workshop! Who’s with me?!
Hard to believe we are fast approaching the final quarter of the year! A couple of weeks ago I outlined my upcoming U.S. Workshops – now it’s time to let you know about the international tours we’ve got coming down the pike for the rest of 2022 and into 2023!
There’s one spot left for one lucky guy to join us in Namibia and Botswana at the end of August – a male required due to the sharing of accommodations. We’ve got an excellent guide on tap for some exclusive wildlife viewing opportunities. Of course, Namibia is about it’s unique landscape as well, and we will have plenty of opportunities to photograph it, including a night session in Sossusvlei. Botswana is all about the wildlife – elephants, big cats and more! Come for one or both tours.
Spend Halloween in Oaxaca, Mexico celebrating the Day of the Dead festivities in this colorful location among it’s friendly people. For locals, the Day of the Dead is a mystical experience personal to those whom remember loved ones passed. It’s hard to describe this combination of solemn reverence and celebratory revelry until you experience it for yourself.
In February, we’ll be returning to Japan, where the winter weather sets the scene for wildlife and scenery that creates the proverbial winter wonderland. From bustling cities to remote wildlife locations, we’ll get a bit of everything. Macaques, swans, and more await!

I was traveling much of March and April and let me tell you – it was challenging for me and my staff, what with changing testing protocols for health on every leg of the trip! From Seattle I went to Brazil to photograph for my upcoming wildlife book and came away happy happy with photos of Harpy Eagles. Stay tuned for some video from that location!
After that, it was off to Morocco to lead a tour of one of the more culturally diverse locations you can visit, where the cultures of Africa, Europe, and the Middle East come together. Today was like Christmas in May as I excitedly unpacked a sculpture I purchased on this leg of the trip. It took a while to get here, but It’s always nice add objects from my travels to my home. Live like an artist!
From there it was on to Spain to join some dear friends for Easter celebrations, and ended up in Jerusalem for the holiday itself. Well worth it to acquire necessary photos for my upcoming book with a subject of international religions and beliefs.
I am finally getting some photos up, in no particular order – So let’s start with Morocco!
This is a stunningly beautiful country, mountainous and full of architectural wonders. Spring was just starting to show itself with the budding of fruit trees in fertile valleys. What did we photograph? Cats, lots of ‘em (I must have been missing my kitty back home), but also the endangered Barbary macaque, camels, and shepherds and their flocks. Snow crowned the Atlas Mountains and winds swept the Sahara as we traveled through high passes and verdant river valleys. The architecture is phenomenal and instantly recognizable as countless productions have been filmed in its adobe cities and desert landscapes.

Detroit, Michigan is hard to define these days. Restoration projects abound in the urban sprawl that faced decline for many years. Nature preserves and neighborhoods have sprung up along the way, bringing green vitality to what many think of as a grey urban landscape. Modern commercial districts and the arts combine to form a growing down-town, feeling right at home amidst the array of architectural styles that define many middle-American cities.
Our home base will be the beautiful and modern Aloft Detroit at the David Witney, a modern hotel with every amenity providing the foundation for our retreat together. Over the next four days our explorations will provide opportunities to capture images unique to each participant.
