Atlanta Masters of Nature Photography Seminar February 14-16, 2014 The High Museum of Art Atlanta, GA
I’m excited to announce that the next Masters of Nature Photography seminar with Tom Mangelsen, Frans Lanting and me will take place February 14th to 16th at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia.
We will draw from our wide-ranging experience with subjects and locations around the world to inspire attendees, show them new ways to see, give them tools to create more compelling images, and empower them to use photography to benefit conservation causes and other personal interests. Our presentations will be mixed with panel discussions, Q & A sessions, and reviews of images submitted by attendees.
The Josephine Herrick Project is a nonprofit that enlists photographic community volunteers to educate students who have not had the opportunity to learn the communicative power of photography. Through partnerships with local organizations, JHProject’s completely free programs inspire children, teens, adults and seniors with the visual language of photography, enhancing their abilities to transform communities through artistic vision.
The ART of Photography
“In the last issue, we introduced you to Art Wolfe, a renowned photographer who talked about his connection with nature and everything it hosts. In this second installment of an insightful two-part series, Art Wolfe talks about his most popular and gorgeous set of photographs — the art of camouflage in nature, his eye for the human canvas and as a bonus, his 10 commandments for aspiring photographers. Pick up the new issue to read about his genius.”

When one of my staff members Amanda Harryman took a couple of days off in March, she said it was to make a documentary. I assumed that meant she was filming for a project. But low and behold, her team actually made a whole documentary called A Dose for Dominic! Apparently, each year, a bunch of crazy documentarians from around the world willingly lose a lot of sleep to create films in 5 days.
Those of you who watch my online videos have seen her talents in the edit studio, so you won’t be surprised to hear that the film made the finals. Of nearly 100 films submitted, 12 have been selected as finalists. Having already been awarded with “Best Use of Theme”, they are now vying for an Audience Award. You can vote for your three favorite films on the Doc Challenge site—these are a really amazing group of 12 short documentaries, all made in an extended weekend.
“I recently went on a winter workshop with Art Wolfe to Japan. The places we went were fantastic, the photographic opportunities were great, the people on the tour were lots of fun, and last, but not least, Art was really a great guy to be around. He was always helpful with photo tips and always had us in the right place at the right time. I wouldn’t hesitate to go on another workshop with him.”
“Another wonderful workshop! It’s hard to beat these trips — Art and Gavriel are great leaders — knowledgeable, enthusiastic, with a lifetime of experience in wildlife and nature photography, and fun to travel with. Art’s vision is truly inspirational … he has a unique ability to teach the “art” side of photography. And this was a terrific opportunity to experience the natural beauty of rural Japan and be exposed to some amazing wildlife. Can’t wait for the next trip! “

We are proud to present this fully revised edition of the classic bestseller The Art of Photographing Nature, in which master photographer Art Wolfe and former Audubon photo editor Martha Hill team up to explain the art of composing images of enduring beauty. Against a backdrop of more than 250 photographs of nature, wildlife, and landscapes, they share insights and advice about what works and what doesn’t, and how small changes can take an image from ordinary to extraordinary.
