Wow, what an excellent photo you’ve made here. I particularly like that the light you’ve managed to capture is part shade, part rays of sunshine that highlight the contrasts the owl is taking advantage of to distort the eye when looking at the tree. Love your work, Art, keep it up always!
Hi Art, We all appreciate you getting up on TV and spreading the world about outdoor photography. I may have an unfair advantage, having been born and raised in the wilderness and traveling much of my life with my dad, Philip Hyde, but I saw the owl in front of the tree right away and could not resist making the first post. I hope I didn’t spoil it for others but sometimes the early bird gets the worm, he he. Best Wishes.

Great owl, just beautiful a wood owl I guess, huh?
Yes. It just sort of jumped out at me. I won’t locate it just now in case there are others still looking. Excellent camo job, though.
That's impressive. I want super powers too 🙂 RT @artwolfe Vanishing Act: Can you find the animal in this photo? http://bit.ly/bKFjMw

Yes, I see the Owl on a branch against the tree, but he is really hidden. Nature’s camo.

Fantastic! I still remember when you chased owls all over western WA and was known as “the owl guy!” Long time ago, eh?
Happy travels, Art!
Brilliant Great Gray.
What an amazing image, Art you never stop inspiring me to take better images.

Nice shot! I can’t believe how much he blends into the tree. Thanks for sharing this.
Wow Had to look twice. Camouflage is sometimes the best defense.
owl in the tree trunk
I just bought this book with my Christmas money. It is spectacular. Very well done!

I look foolish having thought I was the only one who saw the bird in front of the tree. Great website and great work.
