Where’s Art? Episode 3 – Point Reyes National Seashore

Episode 3 of Where’s Art is now up for your viewing pleasure! In case you missed them, you can check out all of the episodes of this segment so far on the Where’s Art section of my multimedia page. We have some exciting new ideas in store for this segment in the future!

This time around, I was on location in California visiting the Point Reyes National Seashore. I like to make this trip whenever I’m in the San Francisco area. There is such an array of wildlife – from bobcats to a variety of birds – it’s hard to come away unsatisfied. Special thanks to Daniel Dietrich for being my field guide during this trip!

Where’s Art? Episode 2 – Abstract Astoria

Episode 1 was a huge success, thanks to everyone who watched, and left comments! This time around I was in Astoria, Oregon teaching my Abstract Astoria workshop. You’ll have to excuse the audio quality, as I recorded in a bunker – but for good reason! Check out the video to find out more!

Thanks again to Mitch Stringer for providing the interview questions. If you missed the first episode of Where’s Art?, you can find that by clicking here!

Improve Photography Podcast with Yours Truly

I was recently invited to join a podcast with Jim Harmer and Nick Page from improvephotography.com. We covered a range of topics from learning to use fine art principles to serve as an entry point into shooting subjects and locations, to how to get noticed and market yourself using today’s technologies, while still staying true to yourself as an artist and creator.

Listen to the podcast here.

If the podcast inspires you and you live in the Texas area, sign-ups are still available in Austin this weekend for the presentation of my Photography As Art seminar, where I dive much deeper into many of the topics we touch on in the podcast. Check out our events page to see if PAA is coming to a location near you in 2017!

Travels to the Edge: Music in the Australia Episode

Aboriginal men perform an ancient dance near the coast of Arnhem Land on Australia's northern border. A permit is required to travel in this region of Arnhem Land, an Aboriginal center. The quality of ancient art on rock walls, as well as the modern Aboriginal art and customs, continually amazed me during my visit.

We often get asked about the music that is featured in Art Wolfe’s Travels to the Edge episodes. We have found a treasure trove of information!

Vanishing Act: The Artistry of Animal Camouflage, Available Now

VANISHING ACT Photographs by Art Wolfe, text by Barbara Sleeper In this revised edition, legendary wildlife photographer Art Wolfe turns to one of nature's most fundamental survival techniques: the vanishing act. VANISHING ACT
The Artistry of Animal Camouflage

Photographs by Art Wolfe, text by Barbara Sleeper

In this revised edition, legendary wildlife photographer Art Wolfe turns to one of nature’s most fundamental survival techniques: the vanishing act. His portraits show animals and insects disappearing into their surroundings, using deceptions, disguises, lures, and decoys to confuse the eye of both predator and prey. Spotting each cryptic animal amid Wolfe’s clever compositions is both a fun and an informative challenge. At a time when many species are performing permanent vanishing acts due to habitat loss and human encroachment, this book showcases the beauty and evolutionary extremes of animal behavior and artfully illustrates the tenacious will to stay alive in an eat-or-be-eaten world.

Pushkar Camel Fair

Now is the time of year for the Pushkar Camel Fair and here is a look back when I was filming there for my TV show Travels to the Edge. I did an audio postcard for PRI’s The World, which they used as an answer to the Geo Quiz.

A few of the images from that trip are featured in Earth Is My Witness.
